Zero Ceiling instructor program in fifth year

For the fifth straight year, the Zero Ceiling program will be bringing street youths from Vancouver to Whistler to take part in a snowboard instructor program. If they are successful, they will be given an opportunity to work at Whistler-Blackcomb Snowboard School, and live in staff accommodation.

"We are very excited to be running our fifth annual snowboard instructor program," says Jo Woods, the program co-ordinator for Zero Ceiling.

"We couldn’t do it without the strong partnership we have with the Snowboard School and Housing. It is also fantastic to have so many of the previous years’ graduates still living in Whistler, and wanting to stay involved as volunteers. I see it being about giving back to the community too."

A total of nine instructors that have gone through the program have remained in Whistler as instructors.

Four homeless youth will be participating in the program, which will run from Dec. 3 to 8. Whistler Premiere has donated accommodation to the youth, and Mike Varrin at the Garibaldi Lift Co. will provide complimentary meals.

Zero Ceiling will also be bringing groups of disadvantaged youth to Whistler over the course of the winter on one day trips to learn how to snowboard.
