The Whistler Youth Soccer Club is gearing up for another great soccer season. The club has a strong inter-club competition with Pemberton and is now looking to expand game play with Squamish.
Last year more than 300 children were playing in the club, from ages 5 to 18. The teams were successful in many competitions last year and there are now enough players to field girls and boys teams for the older age groups.
The club will be sponsoring two tournaments this year; the first will be over the Thanksgiving weekend for intermediate aged players, and the second will be the Senior Boys A Soccer Championships from Oct 30 th to Nov. 1.
This will be a busy year and the club will need parents to volunteer as coaches, assistant coaches and managers to ensure a successful year for all our players.
To kick off the season the club is again hosting the European Football School, headed by Saibo Talic, on Aug. 30 th and 31 st . This is a great opportunity for all players to gear up for the season by refreshing their skills for the upcoming season. The camp is for players aged 6 to 18 and will be held on the lower fields of Myrtle Philip School. To register fill out the form in the Sports section of this paper and bring it to Silicon Printers on Main street by Aug. 26 th or phone Andree at 604-938-3684 to confirm registration.
A special feature of these camps is that coaches are welcome to register many members of their team and have them coached as a separate group to assist in team play, and all coaches are welcome to participate as well to increase their coaching knowledge at no cost.
This year there will be a special registration evening for club members on Sept. 3 rd at Myrtle Philip School, from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be activities for the young players, hosted by our senior players, and while parents register a boot swap and information for the season will be available. Last seasons coaches and managers and new coaches interested in getting involved this year are asked to come to a coaches meeting from 5 to 6 p.m. at the same location.
The club is for children aged 5 to 18. For parents wanting to help coach but have little knowledge there will be a coaching clinic on Sept. 6 th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the lower fields of Myrtle Philip. You will be shown how to run a practice, given books with drills and useful information to run a team.
The season play kicks off on Sept. 6 th at 10 a.m. on the lower fields of Myrtle Philip School. Late registration will be available at the fields and Strut your Stuff.
