Ever wanted to host your own TV show?
Anyone with dreams of becoming the next Jay Leno, Oprah Winfrey or, heaven forbid, Regis Philbin need not apply. But Whistler Resort TV is looking for engaging television hosts to take visitors on adventures around town.
Two years after its launch WRTV is switching formats. Inspired by the Lonely Planets Pilot Guide show, the new format will feature fun and engaging hosts who explore all there is to see and do in Whistler.
Open auditions are being held in the village on Sept. 24, and any local with a flair for the dramatic is invited to try out. Several different hosts are required each with a distinct style for the different segments that will make up the 45-minute show.
Segments include Welcome to Whistler and a tour of the resort; Dining; Activities; Whistlers Finest, which includes tours of galleries, shops and homes; and Entertainment & Nightlife.
Traditional advertising is not part of the show. Instead, local merchants are invited to be part of the content, for a fee based on their time on screen. The show hosts will introduce viewers to the businesses.
"Not only is this format more entertaining, but thanks to lower production costs, we are able to offer small businesses in Whistler an easy entry point into the world of television," says Don McQuaid, president of Resort TV.
The new show will be produced this fall and will begin broadcasting in November.
WRRV, which is broadcast on channel 2 on Whistler Cable, is part of the Resort TV Network. It began a resort television station in the Banff-Canmore market last winter and will launch a similar station in Fernie this winter. Additional stations are planned for other mountain resorts across Canada.
