Nine writers have joined the 2016 Writers Adventure Camp at The Point Artist-Run Centre on Alta Lake from June 8 to 12.

For the second year of the camp, its director, novelist Zsuzsi Gartner, has been joined by Heather O'Neill (fiction), J.B. MacKinnon (non-fiction), Dennis Foon (screenwriting), Charlie Demers (humour writing), Paul Pigat (songwriting), Elizabeth Bachinsky (poetry), Matt Turner (writing for video games) and Shelley Youngblut (self-publishing).

The instructors will run workshops and other events.

Returning is the event's dinner and cabaret-style show, featuring faculty headliners and camp participants (open to the public).

New this year is an opening night BBQ, and a national short-story contest in which they've partnered with The Walrus magazine and Legends Creekside.

"I like to describe it as a mash-up of writers boot camp, West Coast arts festival and inspiration lab, just add your own dock and stir!" said camp director Gartner, in a release.

Early bird registration deadline is April 15.
