The best of the best from the annual Teck K2 Provincial Championships, taking place this year at Big White, are selected to compete for the province at the upcoming K2 Nationals, which are taking place in Collingwood. The best skiers at the nationals, are selected to join Team Canada and take on the rest of the world at the Whistler Cup.
Judging by their results at the K2 provincials last weekend the Whistler Mountain Ski Club should be well-represented at all levels this season. A total of five girls and seven boys will join the B.C. team at Collingwood this year.
The WMSC women got off to a slow start, with only Elianne Taillefer and Celeste Pomerantz cracking the top 10 in the giant slalom, finishing sixth and 10 th respectively. Emma King was 11 th .
The team rallied the next day with Rae Swette and Charley Field second and third. Alix Wells of Prince George won both events.
The men's GS was a different story. In the first race Charlie Renzoni took the silver and Blake Ramsden the bronze.
Brodie Seger placed first on the second day, with Bryan Cadman fifth, Logan Pehota sixth and Marc Leroux 10 th .
Following the GS the skiers grabbed their slalom skis. Emma King took the gold medal in the first of two races, with Rae Swette, Charley Field, Celeste Pomerantz and Picabo Reeves fourth, sixth, ninth and 10 th .
Rae Swette was back on the podium in the second race with a silver medal. Charley Field and Celeste Pomerantz were sixth and eighth.
Logan Pehota and Bryan Cadman placed second and third in the first boys' race. Blake Ramsden placed third in the second race, with Brodie Seger, Charlie Renzoni and Bryan Cadman seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.
Athletes to qualify for the nationals were Rae Swette, Emma King, Charley Field, Kelly Steeves (injured), Celeste Pomerantz, Blake Ramsden, Brodie Seger, Logan Pehota, Charlie Renzoni, Bryan Cadman, Kyle Yates and Dalton Pehota.
