The 20 th Annual UBC Triathlon/Duathlon took place last weekend with a short course for beginners, a sprint course for more experienced athletes, an Olympic distance race for competitive triathletes, and a duathlon for athletes that prefer running and cycling to swimming.
As always there was a strong Whistler presence in these events, including some of the top athletes in various categories.
In the mens sprint distance triathlon, which included a 750 metre pool swim, a 20 km cycle and a 5 km run, Whistlers David Higgins was seventh overall with a combined time of one hour, 10 minutes and 48 seconds. He was also first out of 34 racers in the 35 to 39 age bracket.
Paul Suter was eighth overall in 1:11:21, as well as first overall out of 19 athletes in the mens 45 to 49 group.
Paul Nicholas was 30 th overall and sixth in the 35 to 39 race in 1:16:33.
Chris Hodkinson was 79 th overall, and 20 th in the 35 to 39 category in 1:25:47.
Dawn Weberg-Titus was seventh overall in the womens sprint, as well as first in the womens 45 to 49 race with a time of 1:18:13.
Marnie Walter was close behind, finishing 12 th overall and fourth in the 30 to 34 age group with her time of 1:22:31.
Tracy Silvester was 88 th overall and 18 th in the 25 to 29 group with a time of 1:37:49.
In the short distance race, which included a 400 metre swim, an 11 km bike and a 5 km run, Karen Blaylock was 11 th overall and first in the 45 to 49 category in 1:03:23.
Char Riess was close behind, finishing first in the 40 to 44 category and 14 th overall in 1:04:58.
In the Olympic distance race, which included a 1.5 km swim, a 40 km bike and a 10 km run, Greg McDonnell was 16 th overall and second in the mens 30 to 34 age group with a time of 2:22:13.
Sandy Treagus was 24 th overall and sixth in the mens 35 to 39 race in 2:28:34.
Shane Robilliard finished 105 th with a time of 5:09:10.
In the womens race, Whistlers Claire Daniels was third overall and first in the 19 and under group with a time of 2:29:47.
