A record field of over 54,000 took part in the 2007 Vancouver Sun Run on Sunday, making a 10 km lap of the downtown area starting at the Hotel Vancouver and finishing at B.C. Place.

Among the field were 81 athletes from Whistler, 16 from Pemberton, 86 from Squamish and 42 from Garibaldi Highlands. All results are posted online at www.sunrun.com .

The top Sea to Sky athlete was Whistler’s John Blok with a time of 37 minutes and 49 seconds. He finished 13 th in the men’s 50 to 54 age category, and 196 th overall. That’s also in the top 0.3 per cent of all runners.

Blok credited his promotion into the elite category based on his time from previous years. In the front pack there is more room to run from the start, as well as an opportunity to warm-up. For his part, he did a lap of Lost Lake in Stanley Park, adding 5 km to his run total.

Second up for Whistler was Paul Suter in a time of 38:28, placing 246 th overall and 17 th in the men’s 45 to 49 category.

Daniel Havens was third, the only other local athlete to finish under 40 minutes with a time of 38:40. He was 16 th in the men’s 50 to 54 category, and 266 th overall.
