Whistler police are on the lookout for a suspect who reportedly injured a stranger in what a witness deemed an "unprovoked" attack.

Officers were called to the Village Gate taxi loop just before 3 a.m. on Dec. 23 after a report of an assault. Once on the scene, police discovered the apparent victim who had suffered a cut to his lip and, according to the witness, was briefly knocked unconscious.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, 5-11 in height, with shoulder-length blonde hair and wearing a checkered shirt, dark pants and a black baseball jacket. He also may have a Swedish accent, police said.

Knife-wielding San Francisco man frightens family

A knife-wielding San Francisco man was arrested this week after allegedly terrorizing his mother and brother in a local vacation home.

Just after midnight on Dec. 28 a man called police to report that "his brother was trying to stab himself with a kitchen knife" in a rented suite on Blackcomb Way, according to Whistler RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair.

While en route, officers learned the suspect was no longer in possession of the weapon but was "trying to break into a bedroom where his mother and brother had barricaded themselves," police said.

No injuries were reported, although the 20-year-old man allegedly damaged a wall, a kitchen counter and a coffee machine. He was taken into custody and held for court.
