The Whistler chapter of the Canadian Homebuilders Association was well represented at the annual Georgie Awards last weekend.
Two homes built by Nadeau and Associates picked up the top prizes in the categories of Best House Over $1 Million and Best R2000 Home.
"These are a real big deal in B.C. and we managed to get two of them thanks to all the trades and craftsmen who worked on them," said Rod Nadeau.
"Winning the Best House Over $1 Million is kind of like winning the best actor award."
The Beach House built by Nadeau and Associates in Alta Vista, won in the Best Over $1 Million category. The Envirohome in Nordic Estates won in the Best R2000 category. The Envirohome recently sold.
A home designed by Whistler architect Dennis Maguire was also a finalist in the Over $1 Million category.
Ned Johnson, one of the partners in Nadeau and Associates, oversaw the Beach House project.
"For the last two and a half years working on that house, theres a great sense of pride. Im happy for all the guys on that work site," said Johnson. "They really did an unbelievable job.
"These guys arent doing it for glory; theyre working for a wage and their pride, and theyve built the best house in B.C."
Johnson said approximately 35 employees and tradespeople worked on the Beach House.
The Envirohome has also changed things for Nadeau, Johnson and the third partner in their firm, Bob Tetreault. Not only has it changed the way they build houses, but they are also changing their firms name, to The Innovation Building Group.
"Were putting our money where our mouths are," said Nadeau. "Our business is changing, we have to change too.
"Were going to incorporate most of the practices in the Envirohome in all the houses we build now."
He said building the Envirohome was not difficult. "All the trades know how to do it, they just had to be asked: whats the best non-toxic paint, the best low flush toilets etc.
"Theres lots of skill in this town," Nadeau said. "We won because of our team. We have an unbelievably great team right now."
Intrawests First Tracks Lodge also won a Georgie in the category of Best Resort Development.
