Whistler riders on top at The Ranch

The annual Race the Ranch Downhill outside of Kamloops took place this past weekend, kicking off the B.C. Cup downhill series. The course is short but challenging with dusty corners and lots of air features built into the hillside.

Whistler and Squamish athletes had a good weekend overall.

From Whistler, Finn Iles won the Under 15 men's race in a time of 1:58.79, almost five full seconds ahead of the next racer. There were 18 riders in the category.

Allen Collinge was first out of 14 riders in the 19 to 29 Citizen Men in 1:52.83, 2.2 seconds ahead of the next racer. Ali Chapple and Patrick Meen also raced, placing fourth and sixth respectively.

In Senior Women 19 to 29, Whistler's Maria Darquier was first in 2:18.28, followed by Whistler's Kelsey Begg in 2:27.57.

Adrian Camposilvan was eighth out of 23 in Senior Men 19 to 29 in 1:58.53.

From Squamish, Mikayla Martin was third in Junior Women 15 to 18 in 2:45.56.

Rhys Verner dominated the Under 17 Expert Men's category in 1:49.06, over three seconds ahead of the next racer. Luke Di Marzo was fourth in the category in 1:56.42.

In Junior Expert Men 17 to 18, Jackson Lee was first in 1:44.48, five-and-a-half seconds ahead of the competition. He was also the fastest male overall, including the men's Elite category. Whistler's Bowen Irvine was 13th in the category.

Jaime Hill of Pemberton placed first in Elite Womn in 2:02.63 with a gap of almost eight seconds.

In the Elite Men's race, Whistler's Nick Geddes placed fifth overall in 1:47.60. Kip Shortreed of Squamish was 15th in 1:52.30 and Cameron Starcheski of Whistler placed 21st in 1:53.68.

The next B.C. Cup race is at Sun Peaks on July 6 and 7.
