Whistler-based Glacier Creek Pacific Contracting Ltd. has been named a finalist by BC Hydro for a Power Smart Excellence Award.
The energy efficiency measures at the company's 80-unit Glacier Duplexes at Rainbow have earned the development a Power Smart Gold rating and will save more than 145,000 kilowatt hours annually.
The Power Smart Excellence Awards recognize B.C. businesses for their leadership in and commitment to energy management and conservation.
"With so many organizations making energy efficiency and conservation an integral part of the way they conduct business, it has become increasingly difficult with each passing year to narrow down finalists, let alone winners," Lisa Coltart, BC Hydro's executive director of Power Smart and Customer Care, said in a release.
"On behalf of BC Hydro I'd like to extend my congratulations to Glacier Creek Pacific Contracting. Your commitment to energy efficiency will help our province reach its goal of electricity self sufficiency by 2016."
A finalist in the Residential Building/Developer category, Glacier Creek Pacific Contracting energy efficient design has exceeded Whistler Green voluntary standards for healthy homes, which is rated on items such as energy efficiency, water sustainability, waste reduction and resource efficiency.
Fifty-three finalists in 15 categories were selected by a panel of judges that reviewed nominations submitted by both B.C. businesses and BC Hydro employees. BC Hydro will announce award recipients on the evening of Oct. 25 in Vancouver.
Now in its eighth year, the Power Smart Excellence Awards showcase the best and brightest energy conservation practices amongst BC Hydro customers. The awards strive to not only recognize B.C. businesses for their continued efforts toward energy efficiency but to also inspire other businesses to step up and make their own commitments to conservation.
