The stage is set for the B.C. Winter Games taking place in Terrace this weekend, with 1,100 athletes, 279 coaches and 174 technical officials from around the province taking part.
Whistler and Whistler-based sports organizations will be well-represented this year, most of them competing for Zone 5 (Vancouver and Sea to Sky).
Emina Ida will join the Zone 5 girl's hockey team.
In alpine skiing, the team includes Alex Gershon, Jonathan Hutchison, Cheyenne Ling, Hugo Ng and Max Peiffer. James O'Neill will join the team as the head coach. Pemberton's Christine Kohls will be the head coach from the Fraser River-Delta region, or Zone 4.
In cross-country, Whistler will be represented by Lauren Doak and Jenya Nordin - both members of the Whistler Nordics Devo team. Devo team coach Maria Lundgren will be the Zone 5 head coach.
In freestyle skiing Nicholas Bazin and Sarah Hogg will be travelling with the team as the head and assistant coaches. Five of their athletes are part of the team: Sarah Lawson, Tim Ravenna and Taylor Wilson from Whistler, and Brenden Kelly and Yuki Tsubota from Pemberton.
Squamish is bringing an archery team to the competition: head coach Paul Greening and assistant coach Mary Moore and archers Lauren Aikens, Trevor Boots, David McKenzie, William Moore and Chelsey Wolf.
Also making the trip from the Squamish area are biathlete Cedric St. Pierre, female hockey player Karmen Mooney and alpine skier Mikayla Martin.
The Whistler Mountain Ski Club is well-represented in the competition: Cameron Alexander, Jeffrey Cadman, Dylan Ferguson, Sophia Ferguson, Siobhan Finan, Stefanie Fleckenstein, Max Kirshenblatt, Cassandra Mah, Mischa Price, Griffin Renzoni, Riley Seger, Charlie Tuer, Antoine Turcott, Sabrina Wong, Cooper Yates and Anna Yamaoka.
