Who: M.O.P. with Pharoahe Monch and Scratch
What: Weapons of Mic Destruction Tour
When: Monday, June 21
Hip-hop fans are in for it on Monday night.
M.O.P. a.k.a. Mash Out Posse, a.k.a. terrible twosome Billy Danze and Lil Fame will be in the house, headlining a hip-hop tour extraordinaire that includes MC Pharoahe Monch and the legendary vocal percussionist Scratch, known best for his work with the Roots.
Long tearing up the New York scene with their gruff, banging, relentless rhymes, M.O.P. was shuffled around from label to label, their hardcore sound relegated to the underground by a series of bad breaks.
But since being added to rap impressario Jay-Zs Roc-A-Fella records it looks like M.O.P.s label woes are finally over.
Roc-A-Fella debut album Ghetto Warfare is expected to be released later this summer.
Joining forces with M.O.P.s hard hitting "grenade rap" on the current tour is enigmatic MC Pharaohe Monch, one half of 90s conscious hip-hop duo Organized Konfusion and the voice behind the hit track Simon Says off 1999 debut solo LP Internal Affairs .
Monch hasnt released a solo album since then, though he is rumoured to have a deal in the works with Shady Records for the release of a long awaited follow up.
And Scratch makes three... Roots fans know him as the quirky master of the vocal turntables, able to recreate any scratching or sampling sound a DJ can make with his vocal chords.
While known for his collaborations with the groundbreaking organic hip-hop collective, Scratch is an artist in his own right, and the force behind solo album The Embodiment of Instrumentation.
With all four in one room, the tour promises to pack a punch.
Weapons of Mic Destruction takes over Garfs this Monday night. Tickets are $25 available in advance from The Circle and The Electric Daisy Internet Cafe. For more information go to www.mountainpromotions.net.
