Whistler Blackcomb has taken advantage of the recent cool conditions and sub-zero temperatures at night to test their snow guns in preparation for the winter season. If nights remain cool, snowmaking could start early for the mountains.
"We flew our new guns into place yesterday by chopper," Bob Pasch, snowmaking manager for Whistler-Blackcomb, said Wednesday. "We began to make snow in the alpine last night, and tested out our new infrastructure to ensure everythings ready for the season. Im happy to report all is in order."
Pasch said with continued cool temperatures, snowmaking will begin in earnest to build a base for when the natural snow arrives.
The official opening for Blackcomb Mountain is slated for Nov. 24, but the mountains will open earlier if conditions permit.
