Vivid visuals at new Brave Art event

International and local artists exhibiting work at 10th Annual Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival

The Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival has added a street and underground art exhibition, broadening this year’s visual arts component significantly.

Brave Art will commandeer a 3,000 square foot gallery space in the Whistler Gondola building normally used as a rental shop. The rental operation will be removed for the course of the show.

Local and international artists working in a variety of media ranging from canvas, sculpture, film, photography, graphics, graffiti and skateboard decks will be represented.

Confirmed guest artists include legendary tagger Futura and painter/graphic artist Rostarr, both from New York, as well as California skateboard graphic artist Wes Humpston, the man behind the era defining Dogtown Skates graphics in the 1970s. Also expected are Bay Area painter Sam Flores and San Francisco graffiti artist Misk.

On the roster so far from the local scene are Chili Thom, Dave "Pepe" Petko, and Scott Johnston, a.k.a. The Incredible Amoeba.

Brave Art will kick off with a VIP, invite-only party on Monday, April 11 and will continue through the end of the festival, April 17. A limited number of tickets for the opening will the available to the public through www.whistler2005.com/estore.

The 10th Annual Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival takes place April 8-17.
