The Whistler community is ready to toast the efforts of the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation once again at their 16th annual Telus Winter Classic, Jan. 25-26 in Whistler.
Tickets are still available for Whistler Winetastic! Evening of International Wines and Cheeses on Friday, Jan. 25 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Westin Resort, as well as the Elements of British Columbia Mountain-Top Gala on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Roundhouse on Whistler Mountain.
Guests at Whistler Winetastic! will have a chance to swish and swirl a selection of more than 150 wines throughout the evening as well as sample hot and cold appetizers crafted by Chef Hans Stierli. Stierli recently returned to his position of executive chef at the Westin Resort, after globetrotting the planet on culinary adventures. In addition, the evening will include an artist gallery as well as raffle tickets for the grand prize of an Instant Wine Cellar. Mountain FM’s very own Mike Ciccone and his new wife and former co-host Rebecca Hall will host the evening with live jazz from Rajan Das and the Das Trio.
Tickets are $55.
The Mountain-Top Gala celebrates the elements this year with creative team Cary and Paulo Campbell Lopes transforming the Roundhouse into a showcase of earth, air, fire and water. This grand finale of the weekend is a buffet celebrating B.C.’s finest as well as live art, performance artists, dancers, drummers and music from local EMI recording artist Ali Milner. Local celebrity Steve Podborski hosts the evening, which also includes a silent and live auction. An original Rod Charlesworth painting is only one of the gems that can be bid on.
Tickets are $150.
All proceeds from the Telus Winter Classic events, as well as ski and snowboard races throughout the weekend, will benefit the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation and their grant program for Sea to Sky non-profits. Last year, the event raised more than $190,000 for local organizations. Since the foundation’s inception in 1992, the foundation has donated more than $4.2 million to worthy causes.

Whistler premier of Lines
Artist Vanessa Stark invites the community to an evening of art, music and film at Lines and Good Times on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. at MY Millennium Place.
The evening is raising funds for three Squamish roommates Brad McGregor, Jacqueline Lawor and Jason Buckles who lost their personal belongings and home offices in a fire.
The fundraiser will begin with a silent auction at 6 p.m. in the theatre foyer. There will be plenty of wonderful things to bid on, including Billabong outerwear, Von Zipper goggles, Burton bindings, a CFR snowmobile rack, a PerformX training package and art from local talents such as Stark, Oli Roy, Brad Chornoby, and more.
DJ Rich A will spin a social mood, and the Whistler premier of Lines will hit the big screen at 7:30 p.m. The big mountain snowboarding film was produced by Quinta Films and retraces the history of the sport, proving big mountain snowboarding is not just for veterans making powder turns, but also for young riders bringing freestyle to the backcountry.
Lines and Good Times will wrap up with DJ Rich A spinning the dance floor at the Garibaldi Lift Company where a ticket stub raffle will be held.
Advance $10 tickets are available at MY Millennium Place by calling 604-935-8410 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.ca.
