Tis the season for movie premieres and the latest movie to hit the screen to ensure youre amped for the season is Kamikaze Films third release, Pass the Buck.
Filmed all over the Northern Hemisphere, including Whistler, Revelstoke, Fernie, Quebec, Colorado, Europe and Japan, Pass the Buck features big name riders Romain DeMarchi, Jonas Emery, Chad Otterstrom, Mike Hart and Todd Richards. It also features local riders Rube Goldberg, Donny Ellis, Victoria Jealouse, T.J. Schnieder, Drew Heifertz and Dan Grey.
The movie is focused on snowboarding and includes a small snowmobile section.
"It covers the whole gamut of snowboarding theres big mountain free riding, park riding with rails and jumps, to urban riding in downtown Montreal," said Dagan Beach, creative director for Kamikaze Films and local owner of multimedia company ultranetic.com.
"Its a little bit off the cuff and has a raw feel to it. Its just showing snowboarding from every angle."
Beach describes the movie as slightly underground, with a subtle commentary on the state of the snowboarding industry.
"There is a secret five minutes after a bunch of blank space at the end of the movie which is more commentary that no one will know is there unless they let the movie run on," said Beach.
"We used a lot of audio and video snippets from old movies, vintage footage, like a kung fu movie. There are movie snippets that a lot of people will never know where it is from but there are also a couple little excerpts from Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
The title, Pass the Buck, refers to a loonie passed from rider to rider throughout the movie.
"After someone gets the loonie they have their part and do all their tricks and then it gets passed off again," said Beach. "Basically the buck is the incarnation of what snowboarding is all about, which is the stokedness and the fun and the experience."
The movie is produced by local snowboarder Mike Hart and Montreal based JF DuRocher. Previous titles from Kamikaze Films include Revalation and The Mission. The box for the movie reads " The snowboard industry has become a sloppy orgy of people trying to make money while some people are getting screwed and others get stroked... As life is a game so is snowboarding so play nice and remember to always use protection. In the immortal words of Cyndi Lauper remember Money money changes everything. Now watch as the true champions from around the world feel the power of the buck or do they."
