A fundraiser for the kids of Kim Wolfe and Elwyn Rolands who died in a car accident last year will take place at Uli’s Flipside on Fri May 16 at 7 p.m. For $15 enjoy finger foods, a silent auction and the sounds of the Hairfarmers.

PORRIDGE FOR THE SOUL>>

Get inspired at MY Place on Fri. May 16. Inspirational speaker Brock Tully who has cycled 10,000 miles through North America, talks about the lessons he learned along the way. Tix are $14. Talk starts at 8 p.m. Tully is the first speaker in a series called Porridge For The Soul.

GIANT USED BOOK SALE>>

Sat. and Sun. May 17and 18 in front of IGA from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lots and lots of books, all kinds, including tons of kids books. Sale by donation. All proceeds go to school libraries at Whistler Secondary and Spring Creek. BAT TALK>>

While they make look like rats with wings, bats are fascinating creatures. Mark Brigham, a bat expert at the University of Regina, is coming to MY Place on Thurs. May 22 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is by donation. A guided outdoor bat search follows the talk.

GLIDING THROUGH TIME>>

The Whistler Skating Club presents this Ice Show on Sat. May 24 at Meadow Park. 130 local skaters, from age 3-17, will show off their skating skills in everything from the square dance to the twist. Renowned champion Gary Beacom will also perform. Show times are 3 and 7:30 p.m. Tix $12 for adults, $7 for kids at Meadow Park. For more info call 604-938-0999.

CHILDREN’S ART FESTIVAL>>

Silk painting, tiled mosaics, terra cotta painting scrapbooking, wood workshop, a magic workshop and more is all part of the Children’s Art Festival on May 24 and 25 at Myrtle Philip School. Fun for kids from pre-school to Grade 8.
