OKTOBERFEST . A Whistler tradition returns with beer, bratwurst, beer, oom-pah-pah music, pretzels, beer… and a root beer garden. A parade from Marketplace to Village Square kicks off the Oct. 12-14 festival. The conference centre is turned into a Bavarian beer hall for the weekend.

ROSSIGNOL ZERO CEILING FUND-RAISER . Christian Begin’s new film Expand Your Mind premiers at Merlin’s Bar and Grill Oct. 13 at the first of a series of events to benefit the Zero Ceiling Society of Canada. Some of Whistler’s best photographers will also present slide shows set to music. Tickets are $10, available through Extremely Canadian in the Timberline Lodge or at the door.

WHISTLER FIREFIGHTERS OPEN HOUSE . Check out the fire engine, slide down the pole, climb the ladders on Oct. 14, noon to 3 p.m.

VANCOUVER SKI AND SNOWBOARD SWAP . The 36 th annual edition of the swap is being held at the Seaforth Armouries in Vancouver Oct. 19-21. Admission is $2 ($5 for families), with proceeds going to support junior racing and snow sport programs in British Columbia.

MUSEUM FUND - RAISER . The Whistler Museum and Archives will be holding a fund-raising event at the Dubh Linn Gate on Thursday, Oct. 25. The evening includes a buffet dinner, a pint, entertainment and entry into a raffle. Tickets are $20, available at the museum.


WHISTLER COUNCIL MEETING. Oct. 15, 7 p.m. in council chambers at municipal hall.

LAKE PLACID ROAD CONSTRUCTION. Municipal representatives will present the results of the tender process for Lake Placid Road reconstruction at a public meeting Oct. 16, 5-6 p.m. in council chambers at municipal hall.

MYRTLE PHILIP PAC MEETING. Oct. 16, 7 p.m. at Myrtle Philip school.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LUNCHEON. John Winter, president of the B.C. Chamber of Commerce, will speak on The New Era: Working With Government. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 11:45 a.m. at the Delta Whistler Resort. Call 604-932-5528 for reservations.

SCREENING MAMMOGRAPHY. The mobile screening mammography program is coming to the Pemberton Health Centre Nov. 5-6 and the Whistler Health Care Centre Nov. 7-9. Call 1-800-663-9203 to book an appointment or for further information.


FURNITURE SALE . The Re-Use-It Centre and local charities are holding a furniture sale Oct. 27-28, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. in Function Junction. Clean, slightly used items accepted for donation. WHISTLER ANIMALS GALORE. WAG is now a registered charitable organization and can issue tax receipts for gifts and donations made.

MY YOUTH CENTRE. Now open at Maurice Young Millennium Place. Activities include ping pong, pool table, Playstation, Nintendo, Internet access, big screen projection TV, day and overnight trips and tons of other activities. Needed are donations of videos, games, Playstation and Nintendo games and any other "cool" stuff. For hours of operation call 935-8410.
