WAX ON-WAX OFF CAR WASH. Whistler Kicks for Kids is holding this car wash Saturday, July 21, noon-3 p.m. in the Marketplace parking lot. Proceeds go to help protect Whistler’s bears through the J.J. Whistler Bear Society.

EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT NON-LETHAL BEAR MANAGEMENT . The J.J. Whistler Bear Society presents Bear Smart presentations every other Wednesday at Millennium Place. The July 25 presentation discusses alternatives to destroying "problem" bears. Call 905-4209 for information.

PEMBERTON COWBOY FESTIVAL AND BARN DANCE. From July 27 to 29 the Pemberton Stables will become home to cowboy poets, musicians, yodellers, storytellers and artisans. Cowboy poet Mike Puhallo of Kamloops and the annual chamber of commerce Barn Dance. Call 894-6984 for information.

SUMMER READING CLUB. The Whistler Public Library’s Summer Reading Club is held on Wednesdays from July 11 to Aug. 15. There is a session for preschoolers from 11 a.m. to noon and two sessions for 5-9 year olds: from 4 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. There will be stories, songs, crafts and a costume party to wind up the club. HELPING HANDS

WHISTLER FISHERIES STEWARDSHIP GROUP — is planning a series of volunteer action days this summer to restore and enhance fish habitat around the Whistler Valley. Volunteers donate a few hours of their time and learn much about Whistler’s aquatic ecosystem and the animals that depend on them.
