Taylor's Nature Trail closed for fish work

comment

Trail walkers in Whistler Creekside should be aware that the small area known as Taylor’s Nature Trail, between the train station and Alpha Lake Park, is closing for repairs and enhancement.

The Whistler Fisheries Stewardship Group and the municipality have identified the adjoining Jordan Creek as an essential route for rainbow trout, particularly in the spring and early summer.

By eliminating pedestrian and bicycle traffic, vegetation along the Jordan Creek banks should flourish, providing more shelter and food for the fish. Preventing erosion of the banks is also important for the fish eggs and hatching fry.

The WFSG is hosting an activity day July 17 to deactivate the trail. If you would like to volunteer your time for Whistler’s fish and streams, contact Veronica Sommerville or Lisa Helmer at 604-935-8323.
