Whistler police are on the lookout for a “suspicious man” who reportedly tried to lure a child into his car on Sunday, Jan. 5, according to a release.
Police were notified yesterday that the unknown male approached a nine-year-old child standing near a bus stop at the intersection of Balsam Way and Lorimer Road at about 1 p.m. The man reportedly told the child there was candy in the back of his vehicle and offered to drive him “anywhere he wanted to go,” the release stated.
Police said the child refused the offer before the man drove away towards Highway 99.
“Whistler RCMP are asking parents to speak to their children about never accepting a ride or offers of inducement from a stranger,” police said.
The suspect is described as between 50 and 60 years old, with shaggy grey hair. He was driving a blue sedan-type vehicle at the time.
Whistler RCMP is asking any witnesses to this or similar incidents to immediately contact the detachment at 604-932-3044, or Sea to Sky Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
