Pemberton-area MP Chuck Strahl has been given a new title and responsibilities after Tuesday’s federal cabinet shuffle.
Strahl, who represents the Chilliwack-Fraser Valley riding, has been Minister of Agriculture in the Conservative government since February 2006.
But when Prime Minister Stephen Harper shuffled his cabinet earlier this week, Strahl was appointed Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.
In a release issued Tuesday, the Prime Minister said Indian Affairs and Northern Development would continue to provide strong leadership.
“We did what we said we were going to do and now it’s time to keep moving forward,” said Harper. “To seize the opportunities that lie before us, and rise to the challenges that confront us.”
Strahl was first elected to office in 1993, and has been re-elected four times.
In 2004, he was selected to serve as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and the Chairman of Committees of the Whole.
