Wolfpack struggle on
The Squamish Wolfpack's losing streak continued into another week after a 9-2 loss to the Richmond Sockeyes on Nov. 18, and a 7-2 loss to Port Moody on Nov. 20. The 'pack have now lost 14 in a row, and exactly halfway through their 48-game season they have a record of 3-17-4.
The team has just two games remaining this month, both away. The first is against North Delta on Nov. 27, followed less than 24 hours later by a game against the Grandview Steelers. Both games are against teams in the Tom Shaw Conference and are must wins if Squamish has any hope of advancing to the playoffs this year.
In fact, the Wolfpack are 18 points behind Grandview for the fourth spot in the Tom Shaw Conference and would need to win nine more games than Grandview in the last half of the season to pull even.
The last time the team won was against Port Moody on Oct. 11, one of two games the team played at Meadow Park Sports Centre.
GranFondo added to Kelowna
In the wake of the successful RBC GranFondo Whistler, where some 4,000 road cyclists raced and rode from downtown Vancouver to Whistler, event organizers have announced a new event for 2011: the RBC GranFondo Kelowna.
The new event will be announced today (Nov. 25) in Kelowna. Approximately 2,000 riders are expected to take part in the first running of the event on July 16, 2011.
The route and distance have not been confirmed, but one rumour has the course leaving Kelowna and crossing the bridge into Westmount, heading south to Penticton, then back north to Kelowna - going around the south end of Lake Okanagan.
More details will be posted online at www.granfondocanada.com.
Meanwhile the Whistler GranFondo for 2011 is two-thirds sold out with over 4,000 of 6,500 spots sold.
