Save some for King Django

Local fans of old school ska and dancehall music will want to conserve their energy this Halloween weekend so they have something left for Monday’s visit from veteran East Coast performer King Django.

Who: King Django with JFK & The Conspirators

Where: Boot Pub

When: Monday, Nov. 1

The self-described "singer, ragamuffin MC, songwriter, arranger, instrumentalist (trombone, ukulele, harmonica and melodica), producer, studio engineer and label owner (Stubborn Records)" has worked with some of the genre’s most renowned acts including The Boilers, Skinnerbox, The Toasters and The Slackers.

The artist fronted the Stubborn Allstars from 1994 to ’98, a ska supergroup featuring the talents of Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ front man Dicky Barrett and Tim Armstrong and Lars Fredrickson of Rancid.

Django continues to innovate drawing from dancehall, ska, roots reggae, rock, soul, swing, and, curious and curiouser, American and Yiddish folk music.

Monday’s show is a stop on King Django’s current tour of Western Canada with Winnipeg ska/reggae band JFK & The Conspirators.
