Santa gives and gives, but aside from the occasional glass of milk and plate of cookies - or tray of carrots if you're teaching your children a lesson in nutrition - the jolly old elf rarely gets anything in return.
In the spirit of the season, Whistler Blackcomb is playing Santa to Santa on Sunday, Dec. 19. Their annual Santa Day gives 50 free lift passes to the first 50 people to arrive at the base of Whistler Mountain in full Santa/Mrs. Claus attire.
Wearing a Santa hat will not get you up the mountain. Full attire means red or black pants (or a skirt for Mrs. Claus), a red jacket with white trim, a black belt, a beard for Santa and the traditional hat.
The meeting time is 8 a.m. at the GLC patio, and all of the Santas will upload the Fitzsimmons Express at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Garbanzo Express, and then head down to the base of the Emerald Express Chair for a photo op. Following pictures, Whistler Blackcomb will reach into its sack for a prize draw, with items like goggles, gloves and other gear for the giving. After the draw, the Santas are on their own and free to spread the cheer anyway they see fit.
No registration is necessary. If you have a season pass you can still earn a one-day lift ticket that is valid from Jan. 1 to Jan. 31, 2011.
