Resort TV wants viewers to chose show host

Interactive TV has come to Whistler.

Resort TV Network was so overwhelmed by talent at its auditions last month managers can’t decide who will be the host of their new show about Whistler. So they are putting it to a public vote.

More than 40 people tried out as hosts for the new show, which was inspired by the Lonely Planet’s Pilot Guide.

"The level of talent and skill in Whistler far exceeded our wildest expectations and has left us really torn about who to cast – especially for our entertainment and nightlife segment," said Jacki Bissillion, vice president and general manager.

So, taking the lead from popular reality television shows like American Idol, Resort TV has decided to put the decision to a public vote. Resort TV is airing three auditions on channel 2 and posting them to their Web site, www.ResortTV.net. Viewers are encouraged to watch and review the auditions and then cast their vote for the person they think best represents their town.

The three finalists for the entertainment and nightlife segment are Richy Middleton, Nanci Potton and Mark "The Toaster" Torlay. All are Whistler locals who should be able to give visitors the "Inside Edge" on the bar and club scene. Voting will be open until Oct. 20 th.

The winner will be announced at Buffalo Bills on Oct. 21 st when Resort TV plans to also launch a new screen design and introduce the rest of the cast.

Resort TV Network, also known as Whistler Resort TV, is launching a new television show, "The Inside Edge", that tells resort guests everything they need to know about Whistler. The 60-minute show is being produced this fall, and moves away from Resort TV’s advertorial-based style to one that’s more entertaining and informational.

Inspired by the travel show the Pilot Guide, the new format will feature fun and engaging hosts who explore all there is to see and do in Whistler. Local merchants are invited to be part of the content, and the hosts will introduce and endorse their businesses in a dynamic way.

Resort TV Network started broadcasting on channel 2 as "Whistler Resort TV" two years ago. In Whistler, Resort TV has an annual viewership of more than 1.9 million resort visitors and residents.

The transition to the Resort TV Network brand coincided with an expansion into Banff and Canmore, Alberta last winter. Resort TV’s expansion continues into new markets this fall.

In addition to broadcasting a television show about the resort and local businesses, Resort TV displays resort information such as current village and alpine temperatures, snow reports, three-day and long-term weather forecasts, road closure information and movie listings.
