Many of our experiences in school mathematics left us unaware of context. Why do we study quadratic equations? Why does the Pythagorean Theorem work? Why should we care in the first place? By the end of high school, few of us even consider anymore the imperative of asking the "why" questions in math class. A series of episodes from the rich history of mathematics will provide meaning to the meaningless and context to the contextless. Through these stories, we illustrate how a math curriculum can be exciting, memorable, and significant. Seating is limited, so please come early.
