What: Whistler Film Festival

The third annual Whistler Film Fest is in full swing. Fridays lineup includes three filmmaker forum sessions and six feature film presentations. Who: The New Deal with Mat the Alien

The Toronto-based organic electronica groove trio swing by the GLC. Whistlers favourite DJ, Mat the Alien, spins a funk & soul set to open. Tickets $15 in advance from Blueballs Boutique, The Electric Daisy Internet Café and the GLC, $20 at the door.

A night of acoustic covers and original tunes by a member of the currently on hiatus Slow Nerve Action. Gontiers eclectic influences run from Hendrix to Beck to Jeff Buckley to Ween.

Who: Guitar Doug and the Hairfarmers
The incomparable Daddy-O of the Patio Guitar Doug starts the festivities off with apres tunes from 3 to 6 p.m. Hes joined onstage by his partner in Hair Grateful Greg at 8:30 for a party that lasts until the wee hours.

The local rockers are back in town after a brief recording hiatus. Popular rock covers played with the great energy that has earned them a loyal following at their regular Friday night gig.

Local teacher Joanne Heppner presents 30 piano students, ages 4-13. Admission is a non-perishable food item for the Whistler Food Bank. Recital starts at 7 p.m. Refreshments to follow.
