The third event in the Phat Wednesday downhill race series, presented by Bud Light, took place on July 3 with a field of 230 riders taking on Fantastic, the rocky Upper Whistler Downhill and Lower Whistler Downhill.
It's a fast, steep course and the top rider, Chris Kovarik, made the bottom in two minutes, 23.55 seconds with close to a three second gap over Remi Gauvin (2:26.43). Kyle Sangers was third in 2:28.95, with the rest of the top 10 consisting of Remy Metailler, Nick Geddes, Zander Geddes, Tyler Allison, George Newham, Denis Courchesne and James McSkimming.
Claire Buchar won the women's event in 2:46.77, the only woman to break the three-minute mark with a gap of almost 15 seconds. Lulu Darquier was second in 3:01.47 and Pat Moreno third in 3:01.90. Rounding out the top 10 were Jen Ashton, Leonie Picton, Ellie Maxfield, Jamie Hill, Kat Mcgill, Ava Buchan and Jen Hoare.
Jack Iles was the fastest junior once again, cleaning the course in 2:35.07. He was followed by Isaac Marangoni in 2:44.66 and Tom Peele in 2:53.66. Also in the top 10 were Spencer White, Tyler Tourond, Brad Jansen, Lucas Cruz, Conrad Murdoch, Jackson Bathgate and Kolt Hoyle.
In the male master category, Mathieu Hebert was first in 2:34.68, followed by Kris Atkinson in 2:38.62 and Chris Young in 2:38.77. In the top 10 were Shane Gayton, Andrew Gunn, John Moon, Richard Bedford, Alex Attard, Luke Radnor and Chris Dewer.
There were 230 riders taking part.
