Fans of local politics are in for a treat. Tuesday, April 25 starts a four week-run of weekly council meetings for the Village of Pemberton.
On April 25 council meets bright and early at 8 a.m. and then meets up again at 7 p.m. for a public hearing on the proposed Silverthorne Development. The property has been brought forth as part of two previous rezoning applications. Those motions were defeated, in part due to vocal opposition from owners in an adjacent townhouse complex.
The townhouse owners grievances stem from a misconception that was spread during that developments initial selling. Apparently, it was suggested to prospective buyers that the property behind the complex was zoned parkland.
The current development plan calls for a 20-unit, small lot development that is consistent with the aims and goals of Smart Growth. The hearing will be held in room 111 of the Pemberton Community Centre.
The next week, Tuesday, May 2, Pemberton residents will get an opportunity to speak to the councils Five-Year Financial Plan. Copies of the plan will be available at municipal hall starting April 27. The public input starts at 7 p.m. with the regular council meeting beginning immediately afterwards. On the agenda are the first, second and third reading of the Five-Year Financial Plan and adoption of the 2005 financial statements.
On Tuesday, May 9, a special council meeting will get a special venue. Mayor and council will be meeting in the white building next to municipal hall at 7400 Prospect Street. On the agenda is the fourth and final reading for the Five-Year Financial Plan.
Things get back to normal on Tuesday, May 16 with the return of a regular council meeting, scheduled for 8 a.m.
