The provincial government is providing the Village of Pemberton with a $100,000 grant to create a strategic business plan for the Pemberton Airport.
Joan McIntyre, the MLA for West Vancouver-Garibaldi, announced the grant on Wednesday.
“Currently, most users of the Pemberton Airport are fire and rescue vehicles, gliders, local aircraft and helicopter companies. I am thrilled that our government is providing funding to identify opportunities for future development of the airport,” she said.
Past assessments have looked into the possibility of extending the runway to allow jet aircraft, and turning the aerodrome into an international airport to support tourism.
The grant is being provided by the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Economic Development and Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts to identify opportunities for future development and make recommendations. The strategic business plan will involve public consultation including consultation with First Nations.
