Where: MY Place
When: Friday, May 9
After a long winter ones mind can often drift to azure blue seas, sandy beaches and white washed houses along cobblestone streets.
Or one could just head down to MY Place and listen to the sweet, smooth and sultry sounds of Pavlo, the Toronto-based but Greek-grown guitar god. Along with his ultra-tight band of diverse instrumentalists, their sound is a blend of influences from the Mediterranean music scene.
Flamenco, Latin, Classical and Mediterranean guitar, together with the Greek bouzouki have tagged Pavlo and his bands performances as dynamic and captivating, leaving audiences wanting more wherever they go.
Pavlo is a composer, a musician, a guitarist and a recording artist with three albums under his belt, the first being the self-titled Pavlo , the second, Fantasia and the third, I Feel Love Again . Fantasia was nominated for Best Instrumental Album of the Year at the 2000 Juno Awards. Both Pavlo and Fantasia have received Gold certifications in Canada by the Canadian Recording Industry Association.
Recent career highlights include performing for His Royal Highness Prince Charles, writing music for two episodes of The Chris Isaak Show in the U.S., and being commissioned to compose a work for Canada's First Lady of the Guitar, Liona Boyd, where Pavlo is featured along side such artists as Al Di Meola, Strunz & Farrah and Steve Morse.
The Whistler Arts Council presents Pavlo at MY Place, 8 p.m. on Friday, May 9. Tickets are $22 for adults and $12 concession. Call 604-935-8418.
