Remembering residential schools Kids and students from Myrtle Philip Community School participating in Orange Shirt Day to remember and discuss the experiences of First Nations youngsters who were forced to attend residential schools, on Wednesday, October 7. The first Orange Shirt Day began in Williams Lake in 2013 following one survivor's account of having her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at St. Joseph Mission Residential School.
