Floating or paddling down the River of Golden Dreams is a popular summer pastime in Whistler.
Whether you’re in a plastic Explorer 300 floaty or a proper canoe, the RCMP, ICBC and the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) are teaming up to let you know that drinking and boating is a dangerous mix.
On Saturday, July 21, officials will be set up at the River of Golden Dreams near Meadow Park as part of a summer impaired driving campaign. There will be “beer goggles” on site to demonstrate how alcohol can impair people, as well as a Drive Smart interactive iPad quiz and other giveaways.
“The goal of the event is for residents and visitors to learn how to plan a safe ride home if they are drinking,” according to a release. “Whether on land or on boat, it is important to have a Plan B to get home safely during summer activities.”
The event is running from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
