The First Whistler Boy Scouts, Wolf Cubs and Beavers will be selling Christmas trees in front of Nesters Market for the next three weekends. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 4 and 8 p.m. the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers will be selling the trees in Nesters Square. The selling of Christmas trees is the main fund-raising event of the season for the three groups, so they appreciate any support the community can give them. Several benefits for the Whistler Community Services Society’s Whistler Food Bank are being held in the next few weeks, including the annual pub crawl for the food bank. The Dec. 19 pub crawl will include the Longhorn, the Savage Beagle, Buffalo Bill’s and Garfinkel’s. Last year’s crawl raised nearly $2,000. As well as the pub crawl, Freestyle Framing and Art Gallery has donated a framed, limited edition print of a World Cup racer, signed by members of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team. The gallery is selling raffle tickets on the print, which has a retail value of $395, for $2 each or three for $5. All proceeds go to the food bank. The draw will be made Dec. 8. Whistler Community Services Society, which runs the food bank, is also accepting donations at its temporary seasonal office above McDonald’s in Marketplace. The WCSS is putting together Christmas hampers, including all the ingredients for a Christmas dinner and presents, for local families in need. Donations of cash, toys and staple food items are welcome. The WCSS office above McDonald’s is open Tuesdays to Fridays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Dec. 21. Volunteers are still needed for the Condomsense Campaign, which takes place Dec. 12-18. Condomsense is an annual campaign to make young people in Whistler aware of the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases and how to prevent them. Campaign workers will be dropping into staff housing, Garfinkel’s, Tommy Africa’s and Merlin’s between Dec. 12 and 18 to pass out free condoms and discuss STDs. Whistler has one of the highest rates of STDs in the province. Volunteer training for the campaign will be done on Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. at the Coast Garibaldi Health Unit, above the Whistler Medical Centre. Call the health unit at 932-3202 and leave your name if you’d like to volunteer.
