The award, presented by Times Mirror Magazines (publishers of SKI Magazine), recognizes a ski area’s overall environmental excellence in design and operations. Blackcomb is the only Canadian ski area to be nominated for the award. The nomination is recognition of Blackcomb’s involvement in soil management, water management, its on-mountain recycling program, environmental education program, self-guided glacier tours, new hiking trails and bear relocation program. Another guide for bikers A second mountain bike guide for the Sea to Sky Corridor is on the way. Björn Enga’s Radical Multimedia and Marketing will officially release the Sea to Sky Mountain Bike Guide May 1. The guide will feature trails in Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton. Maps, trail descriptions, photographs, resource listings of the area’s amenities and services and editorial highlighting features of Sea to Sky Country will be included in the guide. The latest information on the Sea to Sky Trail will also be included. Fifty cents from the sale of each guide will be donated to the Sea to Sky Trail Society, to assist in the development, building and maintenance of the 150-km trail. The guide is sponsored in part by Kona Mountain Bikes, PowerBar and the Delta Whistler Resort. In conjunction with the release of the guide, a website will be established on Whistler Networks’ server. The website will include maps, trail descriptions, an area resource directory, photos and video clips of the trails.
