Lorimer expansion on hold The widening of a section of Lorimer Road to four lanes has been put on hold for a year to minimize the disruption caused by roadwork around the village this summer. Five major road projects were scheduled for the village area this summer, including: finishing Village Gate Boulevard and Blackcomb Way around the Larco site; finishing the Lorimer Road extension over Fitzsimmons Creek; constructing the new pedestrian bridge over Village Gate Boulevard; installing traffic lights at the Village Gate Boulevard-Northlands Boulevard intersection; and widening Lorimer Road, between Highway 99 and Blackcomb Way, to four lanes. The road widening will be done next year and the $1,157,000 allotted for the project will be carried forward to 1996. Valley Trail to be paved Paving of part of the Lost Lake trail system this summer will complete the north end of the Valley Trail loop, providing a paved return route to the village. The trail from the day skier parking lots to the north end of Lost Lake will be paved by July. Paving from the lake to the Nicklaus North Golf Course will be completed this summer but a new trail with a gentler grade will have to be built first. The trail around the perimeter of the golf course will be paved by the golf course developers, Burrard International. Several years ago there was opposition to paving any trails in the Lost Lake area. However, the Parks and Recreation Department feels that with the increasing popularity of in-line skating additional paved trails are needed to take the pressure off the existing Valley Trail. A series of trails in the Lost Lake area will remain unpaved. Dog owners on trial A "dog waste removal system" will be installed on a trial basis at Rainbow, Meadow and Alpha Lake Parks this summer. The system consists of a roll of plastic bags and a dispenser. Dog owners are expected to use the bags to pick up after their dogs. The Parks and Recreation Department will monitor how well the system works this summer. If dog owners don’t use it the municipality may bring forward a bylaw to deal with the situation.
