The boxing and fitness studio at Meadow Park Sports Centre is closed today after heavy rain on Monday flooded the building.
Steel support columns and roof installation began on Monday as part of the centre's expansion project, a Resort Municipality of Whistler spokesperson said.
"In order for this phase of the work to proceed, small segments of the existing building need to be exposed to facilitate the steel connections. Unfortunately, during Monday's work unusually heavy rainfall was experienced and some rainwater entered the building," the spokesperson said in an email.
"The affected area was limited to the boxing and fitness studio below the expansion area. The contractor's crew were onsite to mitigate infiltration and to assist with clean up."
The studio is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, and there was no significant damage or delay to the project as a result of the rain.
The roof structure is expected to be done by the end of this week and roofing will begin after the long weekend.
"By the end of October, the main structural elements, roofing and interior walls should be complete and the project will begin to take shape," the spokesperson said.
"Completion of the project is forecasted for early 2020."
