Whistler residents are invited to participate in the first Whistler May Days — a community celebration designed to attract locals to re-discover first hand Whistler businesses. The weekend, May 21 to 23, will include an exciting schedule of live, local entertainment on two stages, the launch of Whistler’s Summer Street Performers weekends, merchant specials, featured menus, activities, contests and prizes. "Everyone should get a chance to check out their own backyard, and see what great things Whistler has to offer," said Rick Clare, chair of the Whistler Merchants Association. "May Days will allow Whistlerites to enjoy Whistler’s goods and services, and encourage the community and businesses to learn more about each other." Participants will find a passport and an extensive calendar of events in the May 21 issue of Pique Newsmagazine, with details on how to take part in the action and how to enter to win a load of great prizes. Passport holders who collect stamps from different businesses across the valley will qualify to enter a draw for an enticing grand prize, along with many prizes to be given away throughout the weekend, donated by the 35 businesses participating, thus far. All businesses are invited to participate in making May Days a success by offering an in-store draw or promotion, or by co-ordinating a demonstration or special attraction. So far some of the May Days weekend offerings include free make-overs at the Body Shop, a hat draw at The Hat Gallery, and barbecue hotdogs at Housewares Etc. store-wide sale. To register a business for May Days, contact Sally Carmichael, May Days co-ordinator at 938-2729.
