A local businessowner is facing a litany of charges after he was found in an apparent 'drug-induced psychosis" and reportedly assaulted police.
Jason Koehler allegedly assaulted two men on Saturday, April 25, who called police to report the incident.
Upon attending the Village Green business, RCMP observed the suspect through a glass door "chugging Red Bull drinks" with what appeared to be cocaine residue on his nose, said Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair.
When police advised the man he was under arrest, he refused to exit the building. At some point, he opened the door, but still refused to leave.
"A fight ensued," LeClair said, noting that it would eventually take seven officers to arrest the large man.
While Koehler suffered no injuries in the arrest, he was taken to the local medical clinic as a precaution, as police believed he had ingested a large amount of cocaine.
Koehler was remanded for two days before his court appearance, and remains in custody until his next scheduled court date in May.
Police are recommending charges of assault, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and breach of probation.
Keohler pled guilty to uttering death threats to his landlord in October, and was handed a suspended sentence and 12 months probation.
Five thefts reported from mailboxes in 24-hour span
Local police believe a series of thefts from mailboxes reported last week are linked.
The first report came in on the morning of Thursday, April 23 when several mailboxes were allegedly broken into on Whistler Road.
Only a couple of hours later, mail was reportedly taken from four mailboxes on Hillcrest Drive.
This was followed by two separate reports of mailboxes being forcibly entered on Gondola Way.
The following morning, police also got a call about a theft from a mailbox on Castle Drive.
The investigation is ongoing.
