Local athletes strong in Peach Classic triathlon


Whistler’s triathlon community got a workout in Penticton last weekend, with athletes taking part in the Penticton Peach Classic Triathlon on July 15 and one Pemberton athlete taking part in the Boston Pizza Junior Triathlon on July 14.

Lindsay Los of Pemberton was the sole junior, finishing ninth in the 13 to 15 age group and 18 th overall with a time of 37 minutes 45 seconds.

The Peach Classic on the following day was substantially longer, with some 450 competitors swimming 1.5 kilometres, biking 40 km, and running 10 km.

Paul Nicholas finished 15 th in the men’s 30 to 34 category and 63 rd overall with a time of 2:26:52.

Paul Suter finished eighth in the men’s 40 to 44 group and 48 th overall with a time of 2:24:24.

Murray Coates placed seventh in the 60 to 64 category, finishing the race in just three hours.

Among the women, Christine Suter crossed the line in 2:30:45 in the women’s 30 to 34 category, placing fourth in her age group and 89 th overall. Dawn Weberg-Titus won the 40 to 44 category and placed 109 th overall with a time of 2:34:12.

Mae Palm, a marathon and ultramarathon veteran who only started to compete in triathlons last year, finished first in the women’s 60 to 64 race with a time of 3:12:33.

On the following day, many of our local athletes rode the 180 km road section of the Canadian Ironman Triathlon course in preparation for the Aug. 26 event.
