I would like to voice my opinion in regards to the BCTV story on Wednesday, March 7 during the six o'clock news concerning the skier collision with a snowboarder on Blackcomb mountain. To the lady who was skiing: Get a life.
If you read the reverse side of a lift ticket you will see a note to the effect that: Skiing/Snowboarding is an inherently dangerous sport. The user assumes all liability and risk. Once this lady purchased her lift ticket, she entered into a contract that she would assume responsibility for herself. This waiver is designed for situations such as this.
As a Whistler resident and an avid snowboarder I have witnessed similar situations. From the 70+ days I spent on the hill last year, I can attest that snowboarders are not always at fault. I feel that stories similar to this have given snowboarders an unjust reputation.
In closing, I feel that people need to take responsibility for their own actions. Blame should not be placed on a whole group for the faults of a small percentage of reckless individuals.
