The final bear camp being offered this summer by black bear researcher Michael Allen takes place July 22-26.
The five-day camp has five openings for students aged 10-16. There is one space open in the morning session, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., and four spaces in the afternoon session, which goes from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m.
Campers help Allen set bear hair traps, to collect samples for DNA analysis, as well as weighing and observing bears.
Anyone interested can register through Whistler Parks and Recreation by calling 604-935-7529. Weekend bear camps will be offered in September.
