Whistler-Blackcomb will be offering limited space in many of its staff and management training courses to local businesses this year. The decision to share the training resources was one of the initiatives to come out of last spring’s Training Round Table held by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce. Upcoming courses include sessions on: conflict resolution; interviewing skills; training the trainer; effective meetings; interest-based problem solving; violence in the workplace and harassment. The latter two programs will be facilitated by two of the most experienced speakers in B.C. Whistler-Blackcomb’s corporate trainer Rob Schwartz said, based on feedback from the chamber, training programs that relate to supervisors and managers for local businesses are sadly lacking and sending a staff member to Vancouver for training is expensive, with costs in the region of $250 per day including travel. The mountains are using the old Blackcomb Ski Club cabin for training. The facility can hold up to 40 people. The programs are described as cutting edge and are constantly updated through participant feedback. They all have very small lecture components and are interactive. They are also tailored to suit Whistler’s unique service-oriented work environment. Costs for courses are $50 for a half day and $80 for a full day session. Scheduling and registration is being handled through the chamber at 932-5528.
