Gymnasts make the grade at provincials

After a strong performance at home in the Zone 5 championships, nine athletes from the Whistler Gymnastics Club headed to Langley this past weekend to take on the best from across the province.

Podiums were hard to come by and the categories were large with at least 40 athletes in each, but Whistler athletes still managed strong results.

Wentzel won a silver medal on bars, while Marriott placed in the top-10 twice, finishing 10 th on vault and ninth on bars. Carly Mann also cracked the top-10 twice, tying for 10 th on vault and placing ninth on beam.

In Level 2 Novice Maye Akama's best result was 23 rd on bars, while Katrina Underhill tied for 14 th on bars.

In Level 2 Open Lenka Prochazka placed 10 th all around out of 30 athletes, placing eighth on vault, ninth on bars and 10 th on beam. Jasmin Budge was 18 th all around, and placed 10 th on beam.

For the first time in club history Whistler Gymnastics qualified two athletes in the Level 3 Open category. Nicola Halliwell placed fourth on vault, and Rebecca Flynn was eighth on the floor.
