Gravity Series opener rained out

Heavy rains washed away any chance of running the first event of the Whistler Gravity Series calendar, an uphill/downhill race from the village to Olympic Station and back again on May 28.

The event has been pushed back to June 18, and a rain date will be used on Sept. 3.

The Whistler Gravity Series combines cross country, downhill and freeriding disciplines to determine just who is the king, queen and prince – male, female and junior rider – of the mountain bike scene. There are six events on the calendar, including three downhill races, two biker cross competitions, and the uphill/downhill. A dirt jumping competition will also be held on the final day of competition.

After the series has wrapped up, participants will be able to win cash and prizes based on results, or to win draw prizes donated by local stores.

The event is still looking for volunteers. Every volunteer gets a day pass to the bike park in exchange for their work, and those who volunteer for three events will earn a season’s pass. Volunteers also get food and Seventh Season jerseys for their time.
