GBS dies

GBS closes shop Employees at Garibaldi Building Supplies in Whistler arrived to work on Tuesday morning to find the shop permanently closed. The building supply chain, which had stores in Lillooet, Whistler, Squamish and Prince George, had not given employees any indication that they were going into receivership. Plans were in the works to build a new store on Highway 99 at Brackendale. In Whistler the GBS lumber yard and building supply centre, which moved to Function Junction two years ago after years in Mons, are closed. Gary Young of Peat Marwick Thorne, was named as the Receiver in the GBS case. The notice said: "the Receiver has taken possession of these premises, assets and property." Calls to Young's office in Vancouver were not returned.
