Function Junction camera keeps eye on traffic

Whistler residents need not panic about surveillance when they see the new camera standing upright at the entrance to Function Junction - it's just there to monitor the highway.

The camera has been installed by the Ministry of Transportation to keep an eye on traffic on the Sea to Sky Highway. Ministry spokesman Dave Crebo said it's a "real time look" at road conditions.

"It gives people an idea what the conditions might look like and plan accordingly," he said. "There are dozens and dozens and dozens of these around the province."

The Function Junction camera is just one of four set up along the Sea to Sky Highway. Others are located at the entrance to Alice Lake Provincial Park, Garibaldi Highlands and Furry Creek. There's also a camera monitoring the Duffey Lake Road.

Anyone wishing to see the road conditions can go to B.C.'s Ministry of Transportation website, look at the right hand column and click on DriveBC. There you can click on "Lower Mainland-Sunshine Coast" and it will bring up a map showing the locations of traffic cameras throughout the province.
