Former Whistler Mayor Ken Melamed to receive Queen's Jubilee medal

Long-time Whistler resident and former mayor Ken Melamed will receive the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal during the Nov. 20 regular council meeting.

Friends and colleagues are invited to attend the presentation at 5:30 p.m. at Millennium Place

Melamed successfully ran for council in Nov 1996 and served three terms as a councilor before being elected mayor in 2005. He served two consecutive terms as mayor and made a significant and lasting contribution to the community, including welcoming the world to the resort during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In all 60,000 Canadians will receive the Queens Jubilee Medal.

The medal was created to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne.
